Spring has offically sprung...

Spring Lambs in my eyes are the first sign of the Summer. Stray and I were in the Lake District over Easter weekend surrounded by these wonderful cuddlesome (if that is even a word) lambs. I always love the way each mother and Lamb have their own distinctive calls. On occasion I witnessed a lamb go to the wrong mother only to get a nudge in the head. The lamb would then call out "Im Lost!", its mother would reply in that deeper tone I am sure my own mother used on me when I wondered off in Sainsburys. The youngster would then go bouncing off realising its error. I wonder if I will ever be able to eat Lamb again.

It's unfortunate that lamb is named after the animal it comes from - beef, pork etc isn't named after the animal and so maybe it doesn't cause so much angst to eat them. (We'll brush over chickens as I think they might be dear to your heart).

I hope you didn't get lost in Sainsburys too often - at least you wouldn't have starved though.

We have this dilemma in our house every spring, when the lambs are springing about the fields. Youngest won't eat it. Eldest overcomes his sentimentality. I have no quarms about eating it because they have led happy lives in Yorkshire fields, unlike chickens and pigs who have led hellish lives in crates. Am I very uncaring??!

Ohh thanks Ms M I will feel much better now when I chomp on a lamb shank. Phew!

Sorry about your Pea fear Caroline. Things being divided and seperated are all very traumatic, so Peas are certainly no execption. How do you feel about mushy peas? The closeness of all the peas not being able to have their own personal space worries me.

RR - I had a little giggle at what you said about Lamb being named after the animal because I actually call Beef Cow - Cow for tea!

Cow for tea? Theres about 250 pounds of cow up in Manchester for your tea. Oh wait... thats the ex mother in law. I'm veggie anyway. I have much more problem with things being called what they are in edible form as when they are 'alive' than an omnivore does. For example... mushrooms. When cooked they are still called mushrooms. Although I'm still waiting to find a 'fun guy' to be with.
